Jakarta – Faculty of Education (FIP) Undiksha continues to strive to become a Faculty Trendsetter in Asia. Through an innovation entitled “Soulmath: Implementation of Ethnomathematics in QR Code Base On Pop-Up Books to Improve Ability to Recognize Flat Shapes in Mild Mentally Impaired Children”, FIP Undiksha students succeeded in achieving achievements on the international stage. This time it was in the World Science, Environment and Engineering Competition (WSEEC), in the Mathematics category, organized by the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA), on 17 – 20 July 2022.
The work presented by Ni Luh Puspa Pratiwi from the Primary School Teacher Education Study Program (PGSD) as chair, Kadek Gustia Loka from the Accounting Study Program, Luh Nityaswari Laba from the English Language Education Study Program, Putu Satya Dadi Saputra from the Accounting Study Program, and Kadek Nova Suadnyana from the Accounting Study Program History Education as a member, with the guidance of mentor Drs. I Made Suarjana, M.Pd., who is also the Head of the Basic Education Department (Pendas), succeeded in winning a Gold medal, the IYSA Semi Grand Award, and the Doza Srekja Macedonia Special Award.
Confirmed, Puspa Pratiwi explained that the word “SOULMATH” is a form of learning mediaPop-Up Book which aims to improve the ability to recognize and understand flat shape material for children with special needs, namely mild mental retardation. “This learning media implements ethnomathematics namely Culture-based Mathematics learning, in this caseJehahitan Bali. In addition to SOULMATH there is a QRCode which can bescan to watch video & audio learning aboutJehahitan Bali,” she explained.
The success of these 4th-semester students cannot be separated from the special training and teamwork carried out before appearing in this prestigious event. “In my opinion, in a competition, it is not the result that is most important, but how I can proceed with the team. Starting from manufacturing paper and products and other things needed during the competition does require a lot of time to prepare. “Coupled with various campus activities, it is quite tiring, but it is worth getting this achievement,” she said.
He, who has succeeded in winning medals several times at the national and international levels, said that this brilliant achievement was the capital to continue to innovate in taking part in the next competition. “In the future, I want to take part in various competitions, especially in the field of scientific work with the latest ideas and innovations that can be applied,” she continued.
This brilliant achievement received full appreciation from the Dean of FIP Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Ketut Gading, M.Psi., according to him, this is extraordinary, to support the upcoming Simkatmawa Faculty ranking. He further assessed that this achievement was very important to increase the competitiveness of the faculty both at the national and international levels. “This achievement is very encouraging, we from the leadership give our appreciation to the students and supervisors for their success in achieving this achievement. “We have several targets in 2022, one of which is to rank first in Simkatmawa, and we hope to be able to exceed this target,” he hoped. The Deputy Dean for Student and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Putu Aditya Antara, S.Pd., M.Pd., said that FIP ??Undiksha continues to strive to improve international achievements. The steps taken are to maximize coaching and map student potential. “We always facilitate students as a step to maximize FIP Undiksha’s achievements in various competitions,” he concluded.
