Singaraja- (Sunday, 30/05/2021) Society 5.0 was proposed in the 5th Science and Technology Basic Plan as the future society that Japan should aspire to. It follows the hunting society (Society 1.0), the agricultural society (Society 2.0), the industrial society (Society 3.0), and the information society (Society 4.0). Welcoming Society 5.0 and Freedom of Learning, HMJ IPPB FIP Undiksha held a national webinar by presenting Ms. Indra Dwi Prasetyo and Mr. Hilary Findlay. This webinar was entitled “Transformation of the Direction of Millennial Generation Education towards Society 5.0”. This webinar, which was attended by more than 150 participants, became the forerunner of knowledge transfer between presenters and participants.
Welcoming the Society 5.0 era, students must leave the campus zone and have the courage to bring change, for themselves and their campus. In this era, students must get used to thinking critically, and innovatively and being sensitive to social issues in their environment.
Social reform (innovation) in Society 5.0 will achieve a forward-looking society that breaks down the existing sense of stagnation, a society whose members respect each other, transcending generations, and a society where everyone can lead active and joyful lives.
The transformation of work in this era has also changed, people tend to start using technology in their lives. Several jobs are very popular in this era which of course still deal with computers, management, negotiations, and health.
According to Indra Dwi Prasetyo, in this era, students not only gain knowledge in the world of formal education but can access it anywhere, for example attending seminars, business student exchanges, and others.
“The diploma only gets you in the door, it’s like watching a film in the cinema, the diploma is just a ticket, the rest is your attitude,” said Brother Indra.
So according to him, a diploma taken at a formal school is only a ticket for a job interview, the rest is the student’s own attitude, experience, and skills. Therefore, it is important for schools and universities to fully support student activities outside campus. This webinar is momentum for HMJ IPPB to innovate in creating its programs so that it can produce students who are able to compete in the Society 5.0 era.
