The Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Nadiem Makarim, has just issued five education and culture regulations regarding the basis for implementing the Independent Learning and Independent Campus policies.
In practice, Nadiem said that higher education innovation and creativity are very important in implementing the Independent Campus policy.
In Jakarta, a private university claims to have implemented the Independent Campus concept for a long time, long before the policy was issued by Minister Nadiem. “At the Budi Luhur campus, students are free to choose courses according to their hobbies. Of course, this is supported by an independent curriculum too. “So students can have many skills outside the major they choose,” said the Chancellor of Budi Luhur University, Wendi Usino, M.Sc., MM in a press release.
Not only that, Wendi also said that the freedom to choose a lecture schedule can be adjusted to suit students’ needs. “The learning process can also be determined by the student himself. This campus that implements blended learning makes learning easier for its students. “So, wherever, whenever, and under any conditions, they don’t miss out on their lessons,” he added.
On the other hand, a thesis or final assignment on campus is often a frightening prospect for final-year students. Just like high school students who are confused by the National Examination, college students also tend to have a negative tendency toward their thesis.
Through the Independent Campus concept, it is hoped that students can choose whether or not to take a thesis as a graduation requirement and replace it with internship assignments or additional courses.
“There is a graduation with an alternative thesis so that students are not too burdened by the graduation requirements in the form of writing a thesis. “The cross-study program curriculum that students can take is offered as a competency package that they can choose later,” concluded Wendi.
