The Association of Indonesian Educational Technology Study Programs (APS-TPI) is an organization that aims to empower every educational institution administering the Educational/Learning Technology Study Program to become an education provider that can produce scientists and experts in the field of educational/learning technology who have equal qualifications, high dignity, and beneficial to society. In this case, the Educational Technology Study Program, FIP, Undiksha is a member of APS-TPI.
Dr. I Gde Wawan Sudatha, S.Pd., S.T., M.Pd as a representative from Undiksha was invited by the Chair of APS-TPI, Dr. Rudi Susilana, M.Si to be a speaker at the APS-TPI webinar. Wawan agreed so that on April 29 2020 APS-TPI Sekes held its first edition of the Webinar. Wawan, who presented the topic of Visualization-Based Learning, was paired with representatives from the Ministry of Education and Culture. This Educational Technology lecturer expressed the importance of visualization-based learning, “visualization-based learning is important in developing modules, learning media, and learning in various subjects or subjects. Because it is related to information processing in humans.”
In the webinar, Wawan explained, “Visualization is a tool to support the learning process. Visualization is defined as any type of non-verbal illustration (symbolic, such as graphs, and pictorial, such as diagrams, or animations). The rationale is that people can learn more deeply from words and pictures than from words alone-a finding that has been called the multimedia principle. Three relevant principles regarding human information processing come from research in cognitive science as follows: (1) Dual Channels, namely that people have separate channels for processing verbal material and image material. (2) Limited Capacity, namely people can process only a little of the information in each channel at a time, and (3) Active Processing, namely meaningful learning occurs when people engage in appropriate cognitive processing during learning, including paying attention to relevant information, mentally organizing them into a coherent structure, and combining them with other structures and with knowledge activated from long-term memory.” Regarding current conditions, Wawan thinks that visual-based learning is very relevant to apply. Can be used at all levels and all technology used in learning. Undiksha as a university has also implemented this learning method.
As a prestigious event attended by Educational Technology lecturers throughout Indonesia, this Denpasar-born lecturer was very impressed, especially as the material he presented received a positive response from the participants. He also hopes that research on visualization in learning and obtaining information by students (students) can be further developed.
