Undiksha shares batch 2, Dr. Kadek Suranata, M.Pd., Kons brought up an interesting topic about hypnosis. Suranata started explaining this topic with the general aim of getting to know hypnosis as a method of improving mental function. Meanwhile, the specific aim is to understand the concept, how it works, its functions, characteristics, and basic procedures, and be able to carry out hypnosis. In understanding the concept, first explain the definition of hypnosis which is the name of the science of mind programming. He confirmed that hypnosis is a method for empowering mind programs in the natural/subconscious mind of humans. Whereashypnotist is the person who uses that knowledge.
The human mind is divided into two, namely the subconscious mind and the conscious mind. The conscious mind only has a 12% influence on human behavior. The subconscious mind influences human behavior more, namely 88%. This means that behavior change will be effective if it is carried out at the level of the human subconscious mind. Between the subconscious mind and the conscious mind, there is an area called the critical area. This area functions to resist changes in behavior. In hypnosis, a critical area is in a hack or is exceeded and becomes inactive. So values ??that already exist in the subconscious can be influenced.
How do you feel during the condition hypnosis? This Counseling Guidance Study Program lecturer explained “We can feel the conditions hypnosis in reading books, novels, poetry, without realizing it, we are immersed in the reading, as well as when driving cars and vehicles, if we are used to it, our hands and feet will automatically carry out their function without thinking about it, watching television or our favorite films without us realizing it. we were swept away,” he explained.
Everyone has experienced the condition of hypnosis. Because this condition is a natural phenomenon that occurs when brain activity is between waves alpha and theta. This wave is the same as when meditating, praying fervently, being stunned by seeing something, getting carried away reading a novel, daydreaming, and the like. Next, he explained the difference between hypnosis and nonhypnosis. Hypnosis makes a person’s attention focused, awareness, and ability to receive suggestions increases, and this method is legally recognized. Meanwhile, nonhypnosis usually makes a person fall asleep, causing unconsciousness, coercion of the will, and loss of common sense. Hypnosis occurs naturally, intelligent people without emotional disorders experience it more quickly. Hypnosis is not a method of crime due to conditions hypnosis must be permitted by the subject.
Some myths that develop in society are that hypnosis uses certain supernatural powers that can influence or control other people’s minds, hypnosis is a condition of unconsciousness, memory loss occurs and only stupid people can do it hypnosis. Even though it’s a fact hypnosis is scientific knowledge, expert hypnosis does not use supernatural powers, magic, or the help of genies. Only use suggestions or words conveyed with special techniques. When in hypnosis the subject still hears all sounds around him. Hypnosis can have a positive impact, namely learning to memorize very quickly and improving concentration abilities. M. Erikson stated hypnosis is effective in subjects who receive high suggestibility (10% of the population). People who are quite intelligent find it easier to carry out the method of hypnosis because they can concentrate and imagine. Crazy people, idiots, and deaf people tend to have difficulty experiencing things hypnosis.
Based on function hypnosis is divided into:
- Street/stage hypnosis (entertainment purposes, entertainment and shows)
- Hypno sleep (monitors overcoming sleep problems)
- Hypno weight (helps overcome weight problems)
- Hypno stress (helps overcome problems related to stress)
- Hypno parenting (overcoming parenting problems)
- Hypno motivation (helps overcome problems related to motivation)
- Hypnotherapy (overcoming psychological disorders)
- Hypno in medicine: Hypno birth (assisting the birthing process) and Hypno anesthesia (undergoing surgery without anesthesia)
Based on the previous explanation, Suranata said there was no need to worry if he was diagnosed with hypnosis. Current conditions hypnosis is relaxation of the mind such as sleeping at night, remaining conscious, and rejecting suggestions that are outside of moral values ??and the body will be fresher and the mind will be more relaxed. Basic stagehypnosis consists of, Pre-Induction (introduction), Induction (towards relaxation), Deepening (deeper relaxation), Isolation (keeping the subject in a conditionhypnosis), Suggestion, and Termination.
In the video conference, Suranata discussed Self in more depth hypnosis. Hypnosis which can be done independently. In this case, it is used to reprogram one’s mind according to one’s wishes without the help of others, being able to have complete control, as well as deleting, adding, reducing, changing, and correcting programs in the subconscious mind.
Procedures that can be carried out are:
- Look for a comfortable reclining or reclining seat.
- Relax the body and mind towards hypnosis.
- Instillanchor self-hypnosis.
As for practical techniques towards self-hypnosis that is:
- Close your eyes, and let your mind wander everywhere with just 1-2 eyes like watching the clouds.
- Relax the eye muscles, making them unable to open.
- Relax all body muscles.
- Do a countdown from 100-500, and imagine the number interspersed with increasingly relaxed suggestions, until we forget that number.
Signs that will usually appear:
- Diaphragmatic breathing that is calm and deeper than usual
- Relaxation of the whole body, feeling comfortable, reluctant to move
- Body temperature rises (feels warm) mild numbness
- The eyeballs point upwards and inwards or the movement of the eyes from right to left or up and down continuously is automatic
- Thoughts and feelings of relief, lightness, relaxation
- Feeling too lazy to criticize and analyze something
Anchor is a way of planting suggestions in the form of a stimulus-response program. The anchor structure is if I – then I. Suggestions are certain words spoken under conditions of hypnosis. A powerful suggestion is the suggestion that you like the most using simple language, easy to understand, using positive sentences (avoid the words no, don’t, don’t), being specific (avoid making double suggestions), and using the present tense (avoid the word will).
Some suggestions were presented by Suranata regarding suggestions for waking up in the morning and suggestions for overcoming anxiety.
Early Wake Up Suggestions,
“Now I close my eyes, let my body relax, and I fall asleep very soundly and wake up refreshed at 5 am”
Suggestions for Overcoming Anxiety,
“From now onwards, whenever and wherever, if I close my eyes, and intend to do myself hypnosis, I take a deep breath and hold my shoulders, then my body and mind immediately reach a state of calm like now or deeper than this.”
