Jakarta – Faculty of Education (FIP) Undiksha keep making serious effort to be the trendsetter faculty in Asia. Through innovation entitled “Soulmath: Implementation of Ethno Mathematics in QR Code Base On Pop-Up Books to Improve Ability to Recognize Flat Shapes in Mild Mentally Impaired Children”, the student of FIP Undiksha succeeded to obtain achievement in international event. This time, it was achieved at World Science, Environment and Engineering Competition (WSEEC) in Mathematics category which was held by Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA) on 17th – 20thJuly 2022.
The work which was presented by Ni Luh Puspa Pratiwi from Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program (PGSD) as the team leader and the team members: Kadek Gustia Loka from Accounting Study Program, Luh Nityaswari Laba from English Education Study Program, Putu Satya Dadi Saputra from Accounting Study Program, and Kadek Nova Suadnyana from History EducationStudy Programwith the guidance mentor Drs. I Made Suarjana, M.Pd., the Head Department of Elementary Education, successfully achievedgold medal, IYSA Semi Grand Award, dan Doza Srekja Macedonia Special Award.
When being confirmed, Puspa Pratiwi explained that the work “SOULMATH” was a learning media in the form of Pop-Up Book which aimed to increase the skill of recognizing and understanding flat build to the special need children, especially mild mental retardation. “This learning media implement ethno mathematics i.e. culture based math learning, in this case Balinese Jejahitan. Beside of that, in SOULMATH there is QR Code which can be scanned to see the learning video and audio about Balinese Jejahitan”, she explained.
The achievement of this 4th semester student was inseparable from the special exercise and the teamwork which was done before presenting in that prestigious event.
“I think in a competition, result is not the most important thing but how I can process with the team. Starting from making paper and product and other things that were needed in the competition, indeed it needed much time for the preparation. Combined with various campus activities which were tiring enough, but it was paid with this achievement”, she said.
The student who was successful to achieve gold medal in national and international events for several times said that this great achievement could be capital to keep innovating in participating in the next competition. “Next, I want to participate in various competitions especially in scientific writing with the newest idea and innovation that can be implemented”, she continued.
This extraordinary achievement obtained full appreciation from the Dean of FIP Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Ketut Gading, M.Psi., he thought that it was awesome in order to support the rating of the next Faculty Simkatmawa. Furthermore, he judged that this achievement was essential to increase the competitiveness of the faculty both in national and international event. “This achievement make us very proud, we as the leaders give appreciation to the students and the guidance lecturer for the success to achieve it. We have several targets in 2022, one of it is the 1st rank of Simkatmawa and we hope we can surpass the target”, he hoped.
The same thing was conveyed by the Vice Dean for Student and Alumni Affair, Dr. Putu Aditya Antara, S.Pd., M.Pd., who told that FIP Undiksha keep making effort to increase international achievement. It was done by maximizing guidance and mapping student’s potency. “We always facilitate the students as the step in maximizing the achievement of FIP Undiksha in various competition”,he concluded.
