An academic certainly has the desire to deepen his field of study. Like Dr. I Kadek Suartama, S.Pd., M.Pd. who has studied educational technology up to the doctoral level, “I want to improve my quality through improving my academic qualifications with the hope that it will be able to support me in carrying out my duties as a lecturer (teaching, research, service) better.”
He completed his doctoral studies at the University of Malang for 3 years or less than 3 months with a GPA of 3.98 (cum laude). At the beginning of his study period, Suartama was worried that he would not qualify for the BPPDN scholarship application, but because of his high enthusiasm for studying, he was finally given study assistance by the Ministry of Technology and Higher Education from semester I to semester III, then continued from semesters IV to VI to receive an on-going BPPDN scholarship.
Thanks to perseverance and motivation from family, colleagues, and leaders (Prodi, Faculty, University), he has completed a dissertation which was defended in front of examiners on June 2, 2020. The dissertation is entitled “The Influence of Mobile Ubiquitous Learning and Self-Regulated Learning on Learning Activeness and Results Study”. The entire research process for this dissertation has resulted in 3 articles published in the Scopus journal as an obligation for doctoral students to complete their studies. The articles include
- Articles related to learning plans (RPP), which were published in August 2019 on iJET (Scopus Q2)
- Articles related to media development (u-Learning), will be published in August 2020 on iJIM (Scopus Q2)
- Articles related to experimental testing of models/strategies are under review in the Scopus Q2 journal
According to this Manggissari-born lecturer, FIP Undiksha has provided encouragement and facilities in the form of financial assistance in completing dissertation research. This doctor, who was admitted to the judiciary on June 17, 2020, also expressed his hope, “Development and modernization in society will demand professionalism in all fields, including education. Lecturer professionalism can be increased through improving the academic quality of lecturers. “For fellow academics who don’t have a doctorate yet, I hope that they will immediately prepare themselves for further studies.” And for institutions, he advised that because of the high costs of publication, in the future faculties/institutions need to allocate publication funding assistance for lecturers who are on study assignments.
